master and commander

leonard somewhere out west.
When Leonard rode his motorcycle, Leonard was the "master and commander" of his ship.

Knight-Ranger

Leonard on his "74/74" somewhere at the Grand Canyon.
The flame "california kid" paint-job on the super glide gas tank shows up nicely in the flash photo.

Need for Speed

Young Blood

"Back in the day was when i became hooked on sickles welding fabricating and wishing i could have learned Blacksmithing.. those DeLeons were just plum addicting to me...." Quote by Lucky J BTL

leonards pop watching us crazys

"Leonard's pop was the greatest I loved him as much as I would have loved my own father. Here he sits and watchs Leonard chopping that 69 shovel and of course wondering what in the hell we are trying to acomplish because we were jumping around going crazy gettin er done. BOY WAS I EVER GLAD HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WE WERE ON....SID." Quote by Lucky J BTL

"Leonard stands out in any crowd even the ones were his wanna be"s all take a picture in front of the Old Harley Shop. Soon to be replaced by the Gucci Harley Shop. All those riders looked up to Leonard and Respected him for he was one of the first true MOTORSICKLE riders.." Quote by Lucky J BTL

PARTY TIME

eye ball it!

Leonard just got thru tack welding a fabricated bitch-bar, "eye-balling", to make sure the bar is plumb.
Leonard and Lucky J BTL at their best in total concentration, getting the job done.
Lucky J BTL sez...leonard always in my mind........

"God's Country"

Leonard at the south rim, Grand Canyon, AZ, 1975.

"open range"

Leonard "griz" and others admiring a couple of leaver action rifles.
No doubt...44-40.

...3...2...1...BLASTOFF!

Leonard would often say about riding a motorcycle, "The only thing holding you down, is gravity"

...my close-up...

"...I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille"

A famous quote uttered by Gloria Swanson, from the classic movie, "Sunset Boulevard."

Leonard would say that famous line from time to time and just crack one up into total laughter.

Leonard had an outstanding ability in wit, possessing a comedic-genius mind.

...off the line

"...off the line"

What is know as, "getting off the line" at the start of a race.

Leonard and Ronny "...off the line" with onlookers checking them out.

Looks like Leonard got a little too much torque out of the 305cc Honda motor when he "dumped" the clutch.
That caused the front wheel to kick up 10 0r 15 inches. Look closely and you can See Leonard's boots not quite touching the ground. Leonard has a very concentrated look on his face, powerful (forearm muscles buldging) grip on the handlebars and leaning forward, shifting his weight to counter the motorcycle from flipping.

Leonard was "light on his feet", a natural born stunt man.

boys town

"spit-shine in boys town"

Leonard getting a spit shine to his "beatle boots" in Boys Town.
Across the border in Mexico, 1966.

His Honda T-shirt with cut off sleeves and some oil stains.

Lucky Strikes, wrap around sunglasses, beatle boots, sleeveless shirt....

Leonard was into being cool, before "being cool" was cool.

No Doubt!...the essence of cool!...just oozing out all over.

righteous!

"righteous!"

Leonard's Portrait Tattoo on Lucky J BTL's arm.
Permanent, "to the bone", via the heart and into the brain pan. Never to be forgotten.
Thanks and God Bless You, Lucky J BTL.
Brothers will always be Brothers, no matter what.

US Army PVT. Leonard De Leon (far right) and his "band of brothers" (somewhere) in France, early 1960s.

...sing along...
"...over there, over there, we will fight we will fight over there, and the yanks are coming the yanks are coming..."

show me the money!

"show me the money!"
The blacksmith "O.P." with his young apprentice "Leonard" hamming it up for the camera in the 1950s.

Splash day

"Splash Day"

Galveston, 1960s. Leonard setting up a "party tent' for the Beach bums and Beach bunnies.
Leonard was a very handy, practical man and no task was ever beyond his reach.
"Surf's Up" Leonard!

...we dont need no stinking badges!

"...we dont need no stinking badges"

Leonard & Injun, beer and BBQ in "river rat" country, early 1980s.

Lucky J BTL, far left, finding the right "combination" and compression stroke, to kick over Leonard's Harley Sturgis.

"biscuit"

"ex-squeez-me?"

leonard and some "squeeze" at the Armadillo festival in the 70s.

"Biscuit" was her name. Leonard always knew..."how to find 'em"

cool pullbacks on his shovel.

a little putt

"taking a little putt, around the block"

Leonard on "mad max" Pat's "hard rider" (hardtail lowrider), late 1990s. South Moody St/Hwy59 past the Guadalupe River.

BIG SMILE! Bugs in the teeth. Leonard would not have wanted it any other way.

There he goes...gotta be in 5th gear! Them straight pipes just a roaring! That 16 inch rear tire tearing up the pavement. Profiling all the way!

chopped rear fender, forward controls, hard tail struts, bitch bar, all fabricated by "mad max" Pat,...in-the-wind, drag pipes, no windshield, no helmet,...outlaw,..."The One"....Go! Leonard!...Go!

Leonard always taught us how to "put on a show and tell"

the good news is...

"the good news is that...there is no bad news"

Leonard and Dicky laying in the path of the motorcycle jump. "The lakes" & "Big Mo" in the mid 1960s.
Unknown rider of Honda scrambler.

These guys were into being "wild & crazy" before being "wild & crazy" was cool!

Dicky with head turned left, eyes shut, cringe look on his face and Leonard with "eyes wide open" with a big smile on his face.
